Back to My Roots

When I told my mother that I had decided to acquire both a tattoo and a belly button piercing, she was a little confused, but accepting. Everyone was a little shocked at my changes, especially since I don't seem like "the type", but the announcement of my next change attracted way more lectures! I have decided to stop perming my hair. I have been meet with questions, "If you don't have "good" hair then I wouldn't do that." My mother insists on telling me that I won't like it. My friends think that I have gone all black power on them and have insisted that I stop listening to Neo-soul and halt my production of poems. All I want is for my hair to be healthy and to give it the opportunity to be itself. No more stunted growth. I always said that I would never perm the hair of my children, but how can I do that for them without giving them an example to follow. Whether or not I am just trying to make a point, I don't even know! All i know is that I am going through with this. I have already broken the first rule, don't tell everyone you're going natural, they will try to discourage you! lol

  1. People may discourage you, but here's some encouragement. Being natural is 50 million times better than regularly subjecting your hair to chemicals!

I had natural hair until the end of 7th grade, permed my hair for one year, and now I'm once again natural and happy. AND PROUD!

  2. do you have a connection between marking your body with a piercing and a tattoo and beginning to allow your hair to go natural? just curious.

  3. I am taking my micro braids out; the hair dresser added way too much hair for my poor strands to hold up. This will be the first time that I venture out with my hair as is. It has only been four months lol but I am leaving my hair in the krinkly post-braid state to get a taste of people's reactions. This may not be the best idea, I may grow discouraged, but curiousity is my weakness.
